Osmosis machine or filter bottle: what difference and which one to choose?

Osmosis machine or filter bottle: what difference and which one to choose?

Improve the taste of tap water, reduce chlorine, protect yourself from PFAS or pesticides… Depending on your goal, a simple filter bottle may be enough, or you’ll need to switch to a sink-mounted osmoseur. Here’s how to make the right choice.

Cross 90 Balance under-sink osmosis system, more efficient than a filter jug
A sink-mounted osmoseur like the Cross 90 Balance goes much further than a filter bottle.

The filtering carafe: simple, but limited

The bottle contains a small cartridge, most often made of activated charcoal and resin. It significantly improves the taste (less chlorine) and slightly reduces the limestone.

  • Strengths : low purchase price, no installation required.
  • Limits Small volume, cartridge to be changed approximately every month; reduced effectiveness against dissolved pollutants (nitrates, PFAS, pesticides). A poorly maintained cartridge can also favor the development of bacteria.

The osmoseur, more efficient than a filter bottle

Installed under the sink, the osmoseur passes the water through several filters and then through a membrane of’reverse osmosis ultra-fine. Only water molecules pass through it: the vast majority of dissolved contaminants are retained.

  • What he reduces : PFAS, pesticides, nitrates, heavy metals, drug residues, bacteria and viruses, chlorine and limestone.
  • Strengths : Pure water at your fingertips directly from the tap, with regular maintenance (filters every year or so depending on the model).
  • To know Part of the water is used to rinse the membrane; our recent models limit this waste. Some models remineralize the water for a more rounded taste.

Osmosis machine or filter bottle: which to choose?

  • You only want water without chlorine taste A bottle may be enough, if you change the cartridge regularly.
  • You want to eliminate pollutants (PFAS, pesticides, nitrates) and stop buying bottles: the osmoseur is the most effective solution.

Our three osmoseurs:

  • Pure Balance Eco-friendly and energy-free, the best value for money;
  • Robust Mini : Pure water continuously, without a tank;
  • Cross 90 Balance High-end features, remineralization and indicator lights for filter changes.

In summary

  • The carafe improves the taste; the osmoseur purifies the water.
  • For PFASs, pesticides and nitrates, reverse osmosis remains the reference domestic solution.
  • In terms of cost over time, an osmoseur often comes out cheaper than bottled water.

Our humanitarian projects

Emanation of AirDrink, the association AirLife It was created by its founders to bring clean drinking water where it is lacking, thanks to atmospheric water generators.

In Togo, one C8 offered to the health center in Atchavé produces more than 20 liters of pure water per day. airlife-asso.org →
